The PTAC Challenge is a side-by-side test comparing a Nextac Model P with your existing PTAC. Using our challenge kit, you’ll see noticeable differences in energy use and comfort within the first 24 hours. For best results, we recommend running the challenge for up to 60 days to capture normal variations in use and conditions.

1 Nextac Model P, 2 kilowatt testers, 2 temperature sensors.

The PTAC Challenge comes with everything you need: a Nextac Model P, kilowatt testers, and temperature sensors. Install a Nextac in one room and compare its performance to your existing PTAC running in a similarly sized room throughout the test. Run both rooms under normal conditions for at least 24 hours, and the testers will automatically capture the energy use and comfort data.

You’ll typically begin seeing measurable differences within the first 24 hours, as this captures initial occupancy and HVAC usage patterns. However, we recommend running the PTAC Challenge for up to 60 days to account for variations in weather, occupancy, and operating conditions – ensuring the most accurate and confident results. We’re happy to support extended testing as needed.

We cover all shipping costs to and from your property. Your in-house maintenance team can handle installation, using the same basic PTAC sleeve or through-wall opening. We also provide step-by-step instructions and remote support.

You’ll have a dedicated technical liaison available by phone or email throughout the setup, the actual challenge, and the follow-up evaluation to answer questions and help interpret your data.

The PTAC Challenge is open to facilities with a standard 42” × 16” PTAC wall sleeve, including hotels, multifamily properties, senior living communities, and healthcare facilities. The site must have either a 230V  or 277V power supply to support the Nextac unit.
