What is the PTAC Challenge?
The PTAC Challenge is a 24-hour, side-by-side test where you run a Nextac Model P against your current PTAC. Using our trial kit (Nextac Model P, kilowatt testers, and temperature sensors), you’ll measure real energy use and comfort in comparable rooms.
What’s included in the trial kit?
1 Nextac Model P, 2 kilowatt testers, 2 temperature sensors.
How do I set up the test?
The PTAC Challenge comes with everything you need: a Nextac Model P, kilowatt testers, and temperature sensors. Install a Nextac in one room and compare its performance to your existing PTAC running in a similarly sized room throughout the test. Run both rooms under normal conditions for at least 24 hours, and the testers will automatically capture the energy use and comfort data.
How long does the trial last?
We recommend running the challenge for at least 24 hours to capture typical occupancy and HVAC usage patterns. If you’d like to extend it, we’ll support you for as long as you need to get a clear picture.
Who covers shipping and installation?
We cover all shipping costs to and from your property. Your in-house maintenance team can handle installation, using the same basic PTAC sleeve or through-wall opening. We also provide step-by-step instructions and remote support.
What kind of support will I have?
You’ll have a dedicated technical liaison available by phone or email throughout the setup, the actual challenge, and the follow-up evaluation to answer questions and help interpret your data.
Are there any eligibility requirements?
The PTAC Challenge is open to all facilities with a standard 42” x 16” PTAC sleeve, including hotels, multifamily units, senior living communities, and healthcare centers. Please ensure you have a 230 V and 15 A circuit available for the Nextac.
